💥 My Fibro Flare-Up SOS Kit: A Little Box of Comfort
Living with fibromyalgia means flares can hit anytime, leaving you in pain, fatigued, and overwhelmed. In this post, I’m sharing how I built my personal fibromyalgia flare-up SOS kit – a box of comfort items I turn to when things get tough. Whether you're newly diagnosed or a fibro warrior like me, these ideas can help you feel more prepared and cared for during a flare.
I found myself a cute little case on Vinted, and then I got to work filling it with things I know help me when my body decides to throw a wobbly.
🧡 What’s in My Flare-Up SOS Kit?
1. Heat Pack or Wheat Bag
When my muscles are in full tantrum mode, nothing helps like a bit of heat. I just pop my heat pack in the microwave and let it work its magic on my back, hips, neck – wherever the pain’s decided to party.
2. Herbal Tea
I’ve got a stash of calming teas like chamomile and peppermint in my kit. They help me relax and also settle my stomach, which always seems to get fussy during a flare.
3. Essential Oil Roll-Ons
Lavender and peppermint are my go-tos. They help me feel a bit more grounded, ease headaches, and generally just calm everything down when the world feels a bit much.
4. Flare-Up Journal
This is my space to vent, track symptoms, or remind myself that this will pass – because it always does. Getting things out of my head and onto paper helps me make sense of it all.
5. Easy Entertainment
My Kindle is a must, and I’ve got a little list of feel-good films and light podcasts that help me switch off without needing to concentrate too much. No heavy dramas when I’m flaring!
6. Eye Mask and Ear Plugs
When I’m super sensitive to light and noise, these are absolute lifesavers. They help me block out the world and get some proper rest.
7. A Few Extras
A soft fleecy blanket, a bit of chocolate (a rare treat for me!), and some paracetamol for the inevitable flare-up headaches.
💬 Why I Made This Kit
After three years of living with fibromyalgia, I’ve started to learn the patterns. I usually know what’s triggered a flare (like overdoing it – hello, long walks), and I’ve got a rough idea of how long it’ll last. But they still knock me sideways, and sometimes they’re totally unpredictable.
For me, flares nearly always hit my head, neck, and legs – especially my left hip, bum, thigh, and calf. I get absolutely wiped out with fatigue, feel freezing cold (even when it’s warm), and become super sensitive to sounds and smells.
It’s awful for a few days, but having this little kit gives me comfort. It’s my way of saying, “You’ve got this. You know what to do.”
🌿 Final Thoughts
This post’s a bit shorter than usual because, truthfully, I’m still not feeling great. But I wanted to share this because I know how hard flare-ups can be – and how a bit of comfort can make all the difference.
One thing I’m sure of? I’ll recover from this one. And yes, I’ll probably overdo it again someday and bring on another flare. But next time, I’ll be ready – with my little SOS box by my side.
How do you manage your flare-ups? Have you got a survival kit or go-to comforts? I’d love to hear what works for you – drop a comment or message me with your tips. Let’s help each other out!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's very useful!
